Qualifications
Essentials Skills Training specialises in courses and training for health services, aged care, community care, disability services and mangement. We are delivering the following nationally endorsed qualifications throughout Newcastle, the Hunter and NSW:
Certificate II in Health Support Services (HLT21212)
This qualification covers workers who provide support for the effective functioning of health services. These workers do not provide direct care assistance functions, such as assisting other staff with the care of clients. You can choose electives to suit your work role: general (multi-skilled); cleaning services; food services; and client support streams.

Certificate III in Health Support Services (HLT32812)
This qualification covers workers who provide support for the effective functioning of health services, requiring discretion and judgement. These functions are carried out under supervision. These workers may also provide team leadership, workplace training or leading-hand function. Health Support Services do not involve direct care assistance tasks, such as assisting other staff with care of clients.

Certificate III in Aged Care (CHC30212)
This qualification addresses workers primarily in residential facilities, under direct or regular supervision, within clearly defined organisation guidelines and service plans.
These workers:
- Carry out activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of living, for people in an aged care setting;
- Carry out activities related to an individualised plan;
- Report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers.

Certificate IV in Aged Care (CHC40108)
This qualification addresses workers primarily in residential facilities within defined organisational guidelines and service plans.
These workers:
- Carry out activities that relate to maintaining an individual’s well being through personal care and/or other activities of living;
- May provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people;
- May receive training and support to promote independence and community participation, provided as part of activities and programs in a variety of settings including residential and centre-based programs.
- Report to service managers and liaise with professionals and other service providers.
- May be required to supervise and/or co-ordinate a limited number of other workers.

Certificate III in Home & Community Care (CHC30312)
This qualification addresses workers in client homes and other community settings, under regular supervision, within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans.
These workers:
- Carry out activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of living for people in their own homes or in other community settings;
- Carry out activities related to an individualised plan;
- Report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers.

Certificate IV in Disability (CHC40312)
This qualification addresses workers in residential group homes, training resource centres, day respite centres and open employment services, other community settings and clients’ homes.
These workers:
- Apply knowledge and skills gained through qualifications and/or previous experience to provide training and support to people with disabilities to enhance their ability to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance and community participation.
- Report to service managers and may liaise with health professionals and other service agencies.
- May work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or co-ordinate a limited number of lower classified workers.

Certificate IV in Frontline Management (BSB40812)
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who take the first line of management in a wide range of organisational and industry contexts. They may have existing qualifications and technical skills in any given vocation or profession, yet require skills or recognition in supervisory functions. Typically they would report to a manager.
At this level, front-line managers provide leadership and guidance to others and take responsibility for the effective functioning and performance of the team and its work outcomes.

Diploma of Management (BSB51107)
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are engaged to manage the work of others or to add value to or review management practices. Their role may be in any industry or organisational setting. Typically people in these roles will have considerable experience in their respective industries or vocational areas and couple an informed perspective of the specific work requirements with their managerial approaches.
The Diploma of Management requires a sound theoretical knowledge base and managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate own work and/or the work of a team.
